Once the approval was received we scheduled a troop meeting to let the girls watch and help with the reservation process. I wanted them to know how to book travel and know what steps went into a big trip like this. They were able to understand some of the nuances of banking when our troop card was frozen (for suspected fraud) after we made our train reservations. I had to finish the reservations the following week and spread them out over several days to prevent the fraud alerts so they didn’t get to help first-hand with all of the reservations. We did include them in all of the decision making though and shared the reservations with them so they could see how long this process actually took. Once all of the activities and meals were booked we held one final troop and parent meeting to discuss the details. We decided to book our activities ourselves mostly because I love booking travel and making plans. I’ve heard really good things about PB&J Tours though if planning is not your strength.
We only reserved and selected a few of the meals in advance. I decided to do this because I wanted the girls to have as much input as possible in the decision making. This is the only step I wish I had finalized prior to our travel because it did cause a little headache and confusion during our trip trying to plan on-the-spot with 15 individuals – with parents trying to make decisions for the girls. It all worked out in the end and all of these decisions turned out to be perfect for our group.
