DIY Disney Salt Dough Necklaces #disneyside
Earlier in the week I shared a recipe from our Disney Side @Home Celebration, today I'm sharing with you one of the craft projects we did during our party. Before the party I made up a batch of salt dough necklaces for the guests to paint. I used the Disney cookie cutters we received in our party package from Disney Parks and MomSelect for the project. You could do the entire project during the party but the dough needs to back for 2 hours, which is why I prepped them ahead of time. To make salt dough all you need is 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt and about 1/4-1/2 cup of water. Sift the salt and flour together in a small bowl and slowly add water to it until you get the consistency of dough, but not sticky. Once you have your dough the right consistency you can flour your surface and roll the dough to about 1/8-1/4" thick. Then use your cookie cutters to cut the desired shapes. If you are going to be using these like necklaces (or ornaments or key chains) be sure to ... [ Read More ]

The Pros and Cons of Strollers at Disney (or any place really)
Strollers! I actually listed strollers as one of the 10 things you can leave off your baby registry and got a bunch of feedback from my readers. Some of you agreed with me while others disagreed. I wanted to take a few minutes and talk about strollers and some of the pros and cons of using them at Disney or anyplace you are traveling to during your day. My family has never been a big stroller family. We don't live in a town where we can walk to the town. The only place I could walk to would be around the neighborhood - not really all that exciting. We're not big shoppers or mall rats. We did have a stroller that we got when my first was born but it sat in the garage for almost 10 years and was only used about 10-20 times over those 10 years. When my kids were little we tried to travel with the stroller and we did venture to the mall a few times. We quickly learned that the big stroller was not right - for us! We did however use our cheap umbrella strollers (we ... [ Read More ]
Disney’s Earth…WOW!
This evening Big B and I had a 'date' to go see Earth! I can't remember the last time I was so emotional over a documentary. Disney really did a great job with this one. Before the movie even started I was excited for NEXT Earth Day when they bring out Ocean. The animals they chose to follow in Earth were perfect; the polar bear family, the elephant family, and my favorite the humpback whale family. James Earl Jones did a fantastic job with the naration and the musical score was perfect. There were so many times when Big B got emotional (happy, sad, fearful) just because of the music and what was about to happen next. I must warn parents though that if you have very young children (preschoolers especially) the movie does touch on some 'Circle of Life' issues...you know predator vs prey! While Disney does a very good job not to show anything gruesome there were a few times when the youngsters in the theater broke out into tears. Big B is six now and still got a little ... Playhouse Disney Goes Green
This Earth Day it looks like Playhouse Disney is going green for our kids. They are advertising for their website already on the tv so go check it out. While there isn't too much information on the site I think it is a great place to start with the younger kids in teaching them about the environment. The printable tips and coloring pages are fun things for any kid. I know my little one loves to color so I'll take some of my old work papers and print these on the backside. The Three-in-a-Row Earth Day Show game is really cute too. You can play it with your child since it's a 2 player game. The questions are easy but it will reinforce why we do some of the green things we do everyday. Go check it out with your child today. Also on the site is a listing of the green themed shows they are playing on April 22nd for Earth Day. It looks like they have environmentally themed shows from 6am until noon. That's great! Guess I better set my DVR to record those while he's at school that ... [ Read More ]
