I've tested several different brands and styles but I'm in love with how the Tombow markers worked on painted rocks. I've been collecting and testing out the different Tombow markers for doodling and hand lettering this summer; but decided it was time to give them a try on rocks!! I love the bright colors and fine points that you can find in their different markers. "You are ENOUGH!" was one of the quotes in the 30 Days of Quotes painted rock challenge. I used their Mono Twin permanent black marker on this one. It has two tips; one fine and one broad. I used the broad tip on this rock. It's a really deep black ink and doesn't smear at all. If you just need a black color this is my ... [ Read More ]

I’m sorry Android friends, I didn’t create any additional sizes for your phone and I hope one of these sizes will work for you too. Confession: I have a new hobby that is entertaining my evenings. My iPad and Procreate art app. It’s keeping me from actually painting rocks but it’s something new I’m learning to master. My first love will always be painting but this allows me to spread my creative wings and bring even more fun stuff to you. What other hobbies do you enjoy? Are painted rocks the only creative outlet for you or just one of the creative mediums you work in? In addition to painting on rocks I’ve spent the ... [ Read More ]

Creative Last Minute Gift Ideas
...and the countdown to Christmas continues! Did you forget someone on your Christmas list? Still stumped on what to get someone? Girl Scouts Rock – A Painted Rock Challenge
Welcome to the home of the original painted rock challenges! The very first time I painted on rocks was about a year ago with my daughter's Brownie troop. We were working on a project for World Thinking Day and all of the girls painted Girl Scout themed rocks and hid them around our town. Each rock had information on the back that would lead the finder to the Girl Scout website to learn about Thinking Day. It was also where my addiction to painting on rocks began! This would be a fun project that Troop Leaders could incorporate into some badge lessons. Brownie leaders can look at the Painting and the Outdoor Art Creator badges. Some of the words on the list would be fun to introduce new girls to Girl Scouting traditions and history. You could also incorporate rock hiding (kindness rocks) into a community service project. Be creative and have fun! Let the girls help decide what to do with their rocks once they are painted. Have a fun idea you want to share, leave a comment to ... [ Read More ]

I am skipping the Christmas mini-challenge since most of the words are already on this challenge list. If I skipped a theme that you want to paint, go for it! This month's challenge should be fairly kid-friendly too. It is very "Christmas" based since that's what our family celebrates this time of year. Please feel free to share this post on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram. If you’re posting your rock paintings online, I’d love to follow along and see what you create.
