If you don't follow me on Instagram you may have missed a few of the recent things going on our in our lives. Like.... This is the most hectic time of year for our family and for my job. We host a huge Black Friday weekend sale and it's very time consuming and exhausting to plan; however it's a great reward when the weekend arrives and our customers flock to our store looking for deals!! My "work day" on Black Friday actually starts ... [ Read More ]
Creating Layers with Tombow Pens & Markers
These Tombow pens are just too much fun. The colors are so vibrant and I keep reaching for them in the evenings when we're drawing. Today I'm going to share with you my process for applying layers with the markers to achieve depth with only a few colors. I only have ten dual brush pens and twelve twin tone markers so my color palette is pretty limited. Applying layers helps me blend and create more colors. Supplies: For this project I used marker paper, Tombow dual brush pens, Tombow TwinTones and the Tombow Mono pencil. You can find all of these in my Amazon shop: https://www.amazon.com/shop/backtocalley (referral link) I found this picture on Pinterest as my inspiration (sorry the source is unknown, the pin leads me to nowhere). I loved the colors and the texture of the sea urchins. I started with a pencil sketch on marker paper with the Tombow Mono pencil and then outlined the shapes with the dual brush pens or twin tones. They both have one tip that is very similar in size ... [ Read More ]
Writing on Painted Rocks – My Favorite Markers
Affiliate links are present in this post. In the past I've usually stayed with paint pens on painted rocks but when I'm writing inspirational quotes I actually prefer markers. I've tested several different brands and styles but I'm in love with how the Tombow markers worked on painted rocks. I've been collecting and testing out the different Tombow markers for doodling and hand lettering this summer; but decided it was time to give them a try on rocks!! I love the bright colors and fine points that you can find in their different markers. All of these were on top of rocks that had been painted with acrylic paint and sprayed with a crystal clear enamel. "You are ENOUGH!" was one of the quotes in the 30 Days of Quotes painted rock challenge. I used their Mono Twin permanent black marker on this one. It has two tips; one fine and one broad. I used the broad tip on this rock. It's a really deep black ink and doesn't smear at all. If you just need a black color this is my ... [ Read More ]

Painting with Tombow Dual Brush Pens
It should be no surprise to my regular followers to know that I've been spending most of my nights and weekends creating; but I haven't written much about my art yet. I had a few of you ask about the Tombow Dual Brush pens that I used for my coloring sheets this week. Over the summer I finally caved and got the July Tombow VIP Club box. I've been following Tombow (@TombowUSA on IG) all summer and finding new creators to follow on Instagram. They have all be so inspiring to see all the different uses for the brush pens. I originally got them for hand lettering; but quickly learned that they can be used in so many different ways. Journalling lovers use them all the time to decorate their bullet journals. Illustrators love the bright vibrant colors. I decided to give them a try as a watercolor tool! The items included in their July VIP box were exclusive to the box and weren't previously available for sale as a set. I received their new marker storage case (which is now ... [ Read More ]

Peace, Love & Painted Rocks – iPhone Wallpaper
I may have taken my painted rock addiction a little to far? It’s now my iPhone wallpaper! Whenever I look down at my phone I’ll get a little smile thinking of one of my creative hobbies. It would be rude of me to keep this all to myself so I’ve created one for you to download. The download is available for the iPhone 6-8, iPhone 6-8 Plus, and the iPhone X. I’m sorry Android friends, I didn’t create any additional sizes for your phone and I hope one of these sizes will work for you too. Confession: I have a new hobby that is entertaining my evenings. My iPad and Procreate art app. It’s keeping me from actually painting rocks but it’s something new I’m learning to master. My first love will always be painting but this allows me to spread my creative wings and bring even more fun stuff to you. What other hobbies do you enjoy? Are painted rocks the only creative outlet for you or just one of the creative mediums you work in? In addition to painting on rocks I’ve spent the ... [ Read More ]
Feeling Inspired with an Aerie Lane DIY Workshop
Summer is quickly coming to an end with my kids starting back to school this week. My promise to myself this summer was to be more creative and I've exceeded my expectations. I've picked up my sketchbook, I've doodled, I've painted, I've started to learn hand lettering (and calligraphy), and I finally bought myself an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Procreate app. My creative juices have exploded this summer and it's starting to feel like I did when I was younger before I had motherly responsibilities. It's been a wonderful summer for me in this regards and I feel much more balanced. I was incredible excited to have been invited to a DIY Workshop at our local Aerie Lane in Safety Harbor. This is the original Aerie Lane and is operated by the founders of the company, Sheyla and Courtney. Along with a group of local bloggers, I spent an evening with Sheyla painting and putting together their large rustic centerpiece. Sheyla and her team welcomed us with an evening full of more than ... [ Read More ]
Cloth Diaper Laundry Room Sign Download
If you are a cloth diapering family or just want something fun to hang in your laundry room I've created a fun new print. I've always been an artist but haven't done much with my art since before my kids were born. A few years ago I began dabbling in different arts and crafts again trying to get my creative juices flowing again. I've spent a lot of energy on my painted rocks over the past few years but I have a fun new creative medium!! My ipad Pro, Procreate app and Apple Pencil!! I've never been trained in graphic design or created digital designs before and have been teaching myself how to do this. With the Apple Pencil I (almost) feel like I'm doodling away in my favorite sketch book. I have a lot more to learn and have a lot of fun ideas and goals for this year. For starters, this print is available for purchase on Etsy for you to download and print at home! It's an 8.5" x 11" PDF file that you can hang in your laundry room. I know everyone's wash routine varies but this is ... [ Read More ]
