Sunday morning was low-key and unplanned! Even lunch wasn’t planned until right before we ate. One of the families found a pizza place nearby that lets everyone make their own individual serving pizzas, salads, or sandwiches. It was perfect for a few of our picky eaters and the food was delicious! Your Pie was located downtown just a few blocks from our hotel (110 West Bryan Street). The kids meals included a 7” pizza OR pasta OR panini OR side salad of their choice, a drink, and a scoop of gelato for only $7 – what a bargain!! If they still have their Peach Prosciutto pizza I highly recommend trying it!
Halfway between Your Pie and our hotel was our next stop, the Pounce Cat Cafe! This was one of their splurge activities that was on the expensive side – due to the size of our group we were required to reserve the cafe for an hour private event costing them $300 – and no that doesn’t include any food or drinks – just open time to play with the local kitty residents! The staff was nice, but not amazing customer service for the money we spent. They welcomed the girls and went over the rules before letting the girls into their private room. That was really the only time we interacted with the employees until it was time to leave when they rushed us out of the room about 5 minutes before our hour was up to get ready for the next group of guests. The experience though was one the girls haven’t stopped talking about yet! They all loved getting to know the foster kitties that resided at the cafe and they each had their favorite kitty (or two). I’m pretty sure they would have all snuck a cat home with them if their parents would have allowed! There are toys and luxury seating areas in the room and the girls could play with kitties of all ages and sizes. I think we took over 100 photos of the girls and their kitties! Yes, it’s a little pricey but their efforts have found homes for over 2,300 shelter cats since 2016 and provides these kitties a fun and loving environment to live in compared to the typical shelter cat.

Our final activity was another splurge that the girls have always wanted to do as a troop, an escape room! We chose the Escape the Pirates room at Escape Savannah on Abercorn Street. It was a bit of a walk from the hotel and it was probably the hottest day of our trip! On the positive side, we finally got to see Forsyth Park which was beautiful! If we could do it again we’d find out the DOT bus schedule for this trip!! The cost for this room was $20 per girl and the room was the most child-friendly room they offered. The girls had a few minutes to cool down, use the restroom, and rehydrate before the host explained to the girls how to play. The parents were able to sit in the lobby and watch/listen to the girls as they tried to escape the room. The host left the door open so the parents could take a few pictures of their girls. Only myself and my co-leader accompanied the girls but we truly let them struggle through the room on their own. We would occasionally give them advice if they were stuck and they did use their free hints from the host on the really tricky spots. This room consisted of a series of locks that they had to open around the room using clues from the entire room. This was a tricky room and the girls surpassed our expectations finishing the room with 15 minutes to spare! If your girls need a team building activity I highly encourage them to complete an escape room! They learned which of their friends were good with puzzles, which were good at finding clues, which were good at listening to others, and how to use their skills together as a team!

We decided to figure out the free bus system to find our way to dinner and avoid the heat! Another wonderful parent find for dinner was the Crystal Beer Parlor. I was a bit hesitant based on the name of the restaurant but what a fun southern restaurant! We didn’t have a reservation and got seated right away at three tables in the same area. The girls were able to sit by themselves and order while the adults got to relax a bit and celebrate the end of the weekend. The girls got to order anything they wanted off the menu (they did have a budget and stuck to it) which was different from most of our meals that were pre-selected before our trip. I cannot say enough about the waiter – he was truly amazing with the entire group! The food was fun and fabulous! I loved the Pimento Pig Sandwich – a southern bbq with a spread of pimento cheese on top!

After a short walk back to the hotel we were ready to schedule our Ubers for 2:30 am and start to pack up to head home! We were a little hesitant about relying on Ubers at 2:30 so we left ourselves PLENTY of time. It’s a good thing we did because one driver didn’t show and the other one got stuck behind a train for 40 minutes! Thankfully we were prepared for those delays and had plenty of time once we arrived at the station. The check-in process is quick and doesn’t even happen until the train arrives moments before boarding. Sadly the girls had to split up since the train was full and didn’t have the choice of where to sit. They all ended up with at least one friend next to them and the parents were in the next few rows behind them. We did end up with 2 people in our party in a different car – but it worked out perfectly for our mom & daughter who wanted to get some sleep! Actually we all slept for a few hours before we went to the cafe for breakfast — and by breakfast I mean the girls got pizza and hot wings at 11am!
That’s all – the end! A million memories were made on this trip, friendships strengthened, and they’ve already started dreaming of their next travel adventure. It sounds like two of our girls want to visit Alaska and play with polar bears. They better start saving now!
