Are you a creative person? Do you struggle with finding your inner creative spirit? Sit there staring at the blank canvas or journal page wondering what you’ll work on next? This series is something new to me where I’ll share what I’m working on this week. I feel like my creative spirit is ALL.OVER.THE.PLACE and I’m always trying something new each week. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing because it’s broadening your inner creativity.
This week I’ve been working on Funky Florals. One of my favorite Instagram creatives to follow is Megan (@MakeWells) and her awesome Funky Florals. I love the bright colors and the use of mixed media in her work. I love that she works on canvas, paper, wood, walls, and more! She is seriously inspiring to follow.
I purchased her Funky Florals course last week when she was running a sale. I don’t like to “copy” styles and ideas, but I do love her style. What I love most about the first part of her course is how she encourages you to fill a page with different floral sketches and drawings. Her magic number was 25, draw 25 different flowers so that you have a resource of florals to pull from when you take your ideas to the canvas. This was a fun project and a great way to destress at the end of a busy day. I ended up filling 3 pages in my journal with florals. For me I tried really hard not to look at other drawings for inspiration; but to pull from my imagination. If you really need a little inspiration I recommend looking at real flowers (or pictures of real flowers) for ideas.
I love to work in a journal but I’m also enjoying the mess-free iPad art days too. I did my drawings in the journal but instead of pulling out the paints, I used Procreate on my iPad with my Apple Pencil to create the full color version of my own Funky Florals. I do love LOVE LOVE my paint and brushes, but right now I just don’t have the space to dedicate and leave things out when I’m done.
Looking back at it after a few days I wish I had filled in the spaces with even more flowers, but I can always go back and add more in on the iPad. I might work on another one later this weekend after the kids are settled in bed.
