Mother’s Day is tomorrow and our house is in chaos; but what’s new! We just started demolition on our kitchen for a very overdue remodel. Our kitchen is the original kitchen from 1985 and the cheap laminate cabinets have been painted over (poorly) several times. As of Friday afternoon the remnants of our old kitchen are now gone and we’re left with dust and dreams.
Needless to say I’m learning to live in chaos. We saved out the essential items needed to live day to day and packed up our plates, glasses, and pantry. Most of our kitchen is now packed in boxes and bags in our garage; while the essentials are sitting on our dining room table in the living room. Even the refrigerator and microwave are sitting behind the sofa. So far we’re surviving without eating out thanks to our grill and instant pot (since the stove is in the garage).
Simple Breakfast Tips for Chaotic Lives
Breakfast is the easiest meal of them all. Our fridge is always stocked with Stonyfield yogurt and I saved out a few boxes of cereal and granola. I think I could live off of Stonyfield and coffee most days; even for lunch and dinner (and maybe dessert too).
I had to relocate my home office to one of the bedrooms to avoid the dust and noise during the week. My daughters room now houses the family computer and my work computer on a tiny little desk. My home office (desk) is now part of our make-shift kitchen and serves as the only “counter” space we have to prepare our meals.
I’ve learned over the years that I actually thrive in chaos and disorder. I don’t stress about the dust or the mess and I’ve found that I’m more in love with my whole self then I ever was in the past. In my 20s and 30s I always wanted to “be” the mom with the perfect house, the perfect clothes, and the perfect life. In my 30s I slowly learned that the perfect life doesn’t really exist. Now that I’ve settled into my 40s, I think I’ve truly found my whole self!
Mother’s Day is going to be far from the picture perfect holiday with the entire family doting over mom. Hubby is once again working on Mother’s Day and my parents are out of town visiting family. I’ll most likely spend the day relaxing on the beach with my kids (assuming the rain ends by then) escaping from the temporary chaos of our home and making memories. If I’m lucky, one of the kids may even make me breakfast in bed!
Simple Fashion Tips for Chaotic Lives
Wrinkle-free and versatile pieces my saving grace! The Mantra Pants by prAna are just that; they are a lightweight pant perfect for the Florida weather. They are 53% hemp, 44% recycled polyester and 3% spandex. They have a comfortable knit waistband with drawcord. They are a relaxed fit with straight legs and have a very long inseam; perfect for the taller ladies. Because of the fabric these pants do not wrinkle easily which I love!! They can be worn casually to the beach or dressed up with a nice top and heels.
