Wait, you mean I’m not The Eco Chic anymore?
Something awesome happens over the years, you are continually changing who you are. While you will always be you, your identity may change. You start your childhood as a child of your parents, then you grow your wings and leave home, maybe you get married and change your name, have children, change jobs, etc…..but you’re always you!
The same holds true with this blog. When I first started this blog 8 years ago I had no idea what I was doing. The world of blogging was still new-ish and bloggers were defining their roles on the internet. At the time I was working as an environmental consultant and “The Eco Chic” sounded like the perfect identity for me.
During that time I added another child to our family, changed jobs, and became heavily involved in the cloth diapering and natural parenting community. This blog blossomed during those years and I’m thankful for the opportunity to still be relevant in the community.
Now that my kids are older I don’t feel the need to always talk about cloth diapers and green living. I’m now a Girl Scout troop leader, we love to travel, and we love Florida. I’ve found that I enjoy writing about our trips and local events and family happenings; but feel like they aren’t always a good fit for “The Eco Chic!”
I’m closing one chapter of my blog and opening another as “Back to Calley!” Despite the name change, some of the future content may still be green living….or not! The name change will allow me more freedom in sharing myself with my readers and being authentic. I won’t feel forced to make all most posts “green” in nature.
If you’re old enough to remember the 1984 song “Going back to Cali” by LL Cool J, you may be singing the song in your head! All my life (or at least since 1984) when I introduce myself to people it’s not uncommon for them to start singing “you mean like I’m going back to Cali, to Cali, to Cali?” Yes, that’s me! The girl you can sing to when you say my name!
When you listened to the lyrics, not everything relates to me. I don’t like high heels or wear small bikinis and you won’t find me in a little black convertible (maybe when I’m older??); however I do love the ocean and you may find me running away with your bottle of wine. (See the full lyrics and listen to the song here if you have no clue what I’m talking about….Going Back to Cali, LL Cool J)
Now that I have that song playing in your head for the day….
Welcome to Back to Calley! I’m not really going “back” anywhere, but continuing to move forward in finding myself. As my children get older, it’s not as cute to share about their teenage angst or sassy seven year old attitudes. I respect my children and sharing some of these things publicly wouldn’t help them to grow as individuals. It may help me get through motherhood, but I’ll save their stories for them to share when they are older! You’ll find me sharing more life experiences (traveling, cooking, events, etc) and memories that we make as a family.
…and who knows, some of these things may still be eco-friendly because you can’t really take the eco out of the chic!
To my existing readers, thank you for following our journey and watching us grow! For my new readers, welcome and thanks for visiting. I hope you all enjoy my little home on the internet.

Congrats on the name change! It’s perfect. 🙂 I will have to talk to you about how easy/difficult it was since I need to do the same. We definitely change as we age and grow. I’m excited to see what the new blog has in store.
You’ve certainly come a long way! Love the new look! You’ll always be my EcoChic though 🙂
