20 Things Only Beach Lovers Understand

I grew up visiting the beach with my family.  My grandmother lived 2 blocks off St. Pete Beach when I was a kid and I have fond memories of those times.  The beach continues to be a big part of our family and the primary reason we moved to Florida.  While at the beach this week for vacation (yes, we still vacation at the beach even though we live near one) I thought I would share some of my random thoughts about visiting the beach that only a true beach lover would understand.

20 Things Only Beach Lovers Understand

  1. That the ugly shells are the prettiest shells on the beach.

    UglyShells
  2. Early morning and late afternoon are the best time to visit.
  3. Finding sea glass is like winning the lottery!SeaGlass
  4. You look 10X tanner in the shower after a day at the beach even if you’re not!
  5. You’ll pay anything for a drink and food while sitting on the beach.
  6. Beach towels are completely optional.  You’ll probably only use them to sit on for the car ride home.
  7. Backpack chairs are a must; especially with kids!  Ours have a big pocket in the back to store your stuff.  (Affiliate link)
  8. Don’t ever walk up to a couple in the ocean – they are probably doing “it!
  9. We all pee in the ocean!  No one is gonna walk back to the bathroom.Ocean
  10. Don’t attempt to touch anything brown or black that looks like…”poo!”
  11. The beach looks different every single day and sometimes different in the afternoon of the same day.
  12. It’s completely normal to take a nap at 2pm after a morning beach trip.
  13. It’s never too early to open a beer.
  14. You can’t leave the beach without at least one (or ten) seashell for your collection.Sea Shell Collecting
  15. Stingray shuffle ALL.THE.TIME!
  16. Pee on a jellyfish sting.
  17. Never disturb a sea turtle nest…EVER!!Turtle Nest
  18. Pick up at least 1 piece of someone else’s trash before you leave the beach.
  19. There will always be at least one girl on the beach that looks better than you – and that’s ok!  Also, you’re never too big to be seen in a bikini.
  20. It’s ok to bury your kids in the sand! Just leave their heads out so they can breath.

Beach KidsI’m sure I’ve missed a few!  Help me out and leave some other things only beach lovers understand in the comments.

The best time to search for awesome shells is the early morning after a hurricane!

The only thing I would add to the list is maybe applying sunscreen? Not super fun to do, but important for those that burn, nonetheless.

I love this list! I have to admit, I pee in the ocean and yes, it’s never too early to open a beer at the beach. Beach clean-up is a must. Only leave footprints!
