Did you know that today was Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day? How does this affect you as a mom? Perhaps you are a stay-at-home-mom or a single mom and don’t have a traditional “job” to take your kids to. There are still valuable lessons for your children to learn from spending a day with mom.
The amazing thing about mom’s are that we all have different jobs. Some of us are stay-at-home-moms, some of us go to work in an office, some of us travel for work, some of us blog for work, some of us raise children for work, some of us are assistants in our spouses business, etc, etc, etc. The point is, we all work and we all have jobs. They just may look very different from one mom to the next.
Currently, my job consists of working from my home office as a social media and marketing coordinator for Kelly’s Closet. This is a full-time (40+ hrs a week) job and requires me to be online at all hours of the day. While my regular working hours are 9-3pm, the work day continues in the evenings after the kids are in bed and sometimes on the weekends. Since I work from home my job comes with me everywhere I go. I’m thankful for that opportunity to have a flexible work schedule but I’m proud to be able to take my kids to work with me every day. They are currently both in school (preK and 5th grade) so they are gone for several hours during the day. I am able to volunteer at their school and attend daytime functions in the classroom without having to take time off of work. The downside is that I usually end up making those hours up in the evenings after they are in bed. Today, both my kids are home sick with me and I get to take them to work with me.
Not only do my kids get to see me work each day, they get to see me be a mom too. Mom’s in general are very good at multi-tasking! As I’m writing this post I’ve been “interrupted” 5 times to stop arguments, fix lunch, comfort a sick kid, and let the dog outside to pee. My kids witness me being a chauffeur, family organizer, event planner, housekeeper, chef, nurse, vet, wife, volunteer and all the other job titles that I take on during my day. No offense dads, but I’d love to see you juggle all of these jobs while “working!” There are very few lunch breaks, the chit-chat around the water cooler just doesn’t happen, and a mom is ALWAYS on call!
Regardless of what your job title is today, Olive Garden would like to give you the night off from chef and feed your kids for free! Today (April 24th) only, kids eat free with purchase of an adult entree. All you have to do is claim your free coupon here: Olive Garden Coupons.
Any guesses where we’re headed for dinner tonight? Assuming the kids are both feeling better of course! Tell me about your day and what lessons you teach your kids by leaving a comment below.
