Do you have an iPhone? What about the new iPhone 5 that was released late last year? I finally upgraded from my 3gS and was one of the first to get the new iPhone 5 and I am in LOVE with the upgrades (especially since mine was so old). The one feature I’m most excited about (still) with my iPhone 5 is that I can finally take good photos using my phone. So good that I don’t even know where my point-and-shoot camera has gone – it’s been missing for months.
I’m a tad bit techie when it comes to new gadgets and love to learn all the tricks so I was excited when I was offered a chance to review the new book iPhone 5 For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))
. I’ve been playing with my phone for months now and thought I knew a good bit about it but I quickly learned so much more about my phone. Watch this video for my Top 5 Tricks and Tips that I’ve learned through iPhone 5 for Dummies.
Since it’s a little tricky to show some of these tricks in the video here is a bit more information about each one.
Five iPhone 5 Tips & Tricks
AE/AF Lock for taking photos. If you’re not a photo wiz you may not even know what that stands for (I didn’t). AE=Auto Exposure and AF=Auto Focus When taking pictures it will help you focus your images better and adjust the lighting. I usually use the AE/AF lock when I’m trying to either lighten or darken my picture by focusing on either the foreground or background. Here is an example:
Take a still photo while shooting a video. Your taking a video of your kids school performance but something really cute happens and you want a photo also. You don’t have to stop filming to take a still photo. Just push the photo button and you can capture that still. I wish I had known about this one a long time ago!
Screen shot. OK, so this one is pretty basic and you may already know about this but it’s so helpful I have to mention it. If you push the home button and the sleep/wake (power) button at the same time you can take a screen shot.
Photo stream sharing. Share multiple photos with another iPhone user without having to text or email. I use this to share pictures with my mom when she hasn’t seen the kids in a while.
World Clock. OK, so this one has nothing to do with photography but I work with clients all over the world and I never know what time it is where they live. Now I do!

I sooooo want to upgrade to the 5 but I have 2 more months to wait. Otherwise it costs $449…. so I’ll wait a little longer and get it for $199. 🙂 Nice post Calley!
Thanks Stacey!! You will LOVE it when the time comes. I waited way too long for the release and my poor 3GS was on it’s last leg!

I don’t know that I really know what I want to learn to do on my phone. But, I’m going to use that Photo Stream function soon. I have so many apps that I don’t really understand as well. I also don’t know how to manage app folders. And, I have icons that I’d like to remove altogether but seem to be locked.
