It’s no secret that my kids are little eco-junkies just like their mama! I was so excited when my son asked me to participate in the ENERGY STAR Share Your Story essay contest. Now he wasn’t too excited about writing an essay but he was excited about the prizes (I mean what 9 year old doesn’t dream of winning some cool LG Electronics tools for back-to-school). When he found out that he could do a photo or video essay I knew that he would have fun. He started out trying to make a video using his Lego’s but neither one of us are very talented with a video camera (or how to edit video footage). What we do know how to do is take photos.
Two weeks ago before school started he took his sister on a tour of our home trying to find all the ways that we save energy every day. He took photos of he and his sister (and me) as we turned off lights, turned up the A/C, and showed our ENERGY STAR appliances. He really had a good time and it was cute to see him working together with his sister (who’s only 3) on this project.
I took a few minutes to show him how to create a photo slideshow using Google Docs version of Power Point and how he could add his own text. I’m pretty proud of the final product and excited for him to submit his (and his sisters) essay, “Save Energy and Protect the Climate with ENERGY STAR.”
Do you have an energy savvy kid like me? ENERGY STAR is accepting submissions to their Share Your Story campaign until September 17th and winners will be announced on October 10th. For more information visit the Team ENERGY STAR website and join the team!

ACk! Conviction! No, I’m afraid I don’t have energy savvy kids. But, they love cloth diapers lol!

We all have our “thing” Autumn. I am not a perfect greenie by any means. Little baby steps.

This is so adorable! More “power” to your little ones for their enthusiasm, awareness, wisdom and commitment to doing good. Such a reflection of their mama’s values being instilled in a beautiful way, and an inspiring hope for our next generation…a keen reminder of who we do our work for.
