Two weeks ago we received not one, not two, but FOUR phone books. Can I just ask the question – who still uses a phone book? I don’t even think my 90 year old Grandma still uses phone books (well actually, she might). I ‘thought’ I had saved one in my crafting box to create with this month but it looks like my phone book has found a new home at the recycle center. Since I can’t really create my own craft with a phone book I wanted to share some awesome crafts I found online with you.

Did you know you could opt-out of receiving phone books? It’s not a quick process (although it only took me about 10 minutes) but I just did it! I’ll let you know how well the process works the next time they deliver phone books in our neighborhood. To opt-out of your local phone book visit Yellow Pages Goes Green. You’ll need to enter your name, home address, and phone number. Once you register for an account you will receive an email to validate your information. Then you can log in and select to opt-out of all local phone books. It could take up to 6 weeks for them to process the request.
If you do have a phone book that you want to recycle most local recycling centers accept them in with paper recycling. Find a recycling center near you.
This post is part of the Upcycled Crafting Challenge (#freefromtrash) that I’m hosting this month. It’s part of a one month challenge to create from trash. This challenge will hopefully open your eyes to the number of items that we still end up trashing every day that could be used by ourselves or our kids to create fun and useful items.

Phone books are the cheapest and most fun for my parrots. They can spend days working on making confetti out of one (depnding on the size). Parrots are natural shredders of paper and wood, so I look forward to the new phone books. Or maybe I should say my parrots do. When my son was a toddler he loved reading the yellow pages, looking for pictures of trucks and cars. My mother cut some pics out of magazines and pasted them in the phone book for him – cheap and fun for him.
That dress is seriously awesome looking. Would be fun for a crazy Lady GaGa party or something.
