Trash! We all have it, no matter how hard we try to eliminate our waste. While some of us are really good to live a waste-free life, the average American throws away 4 lbs of garbage each day and that’s PER PERSON! Yes, that is the average and I do know that some of my faithful readers don’t create that much waste. I haven’t weighed ours lately but we are about a 1-2 bags per week family.
For the entire month of July I’m going to be playing with my garbage and I want you to join me! Every day in July I’ll be posting a new upcycled crafting project featuring a different piece of ‘trash’ from the list above. Looking over my trash this past week these are some of the items that I still find in our garbage (don’t judge my K-cup addiction please). I’ll be cutting them up and finding new uses for each and every item on the list.
About the July Upcycled Crafting Challenge:
I want you to join me and show your own creations and ideas! I know that you may not have all of the items on your list depending on your own lifestyle. I don’t want you to go out and buy items just for the challenge. If there is a day you don’t have the item on the list find another item in your own trash to replace it with. Then when you’re done with your project for the day I want to see it.
How to share:
Pick your favorite social media network and share your creations! Share them via a blog post like I’ll be doing, on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or even Pinterest!! Just be sure to add the #freefromtrash hashtag so that I can find your images. I will also have a Linky each day where you can share the URL where your project is posted if you’d like others to be able to find your work. While tutorials and directions are helpful they are not required so if you just share images of your final project that’s fine too. You can follow my posts here on the blog or on my Pinterest Upcycled Crafting Board.
Rules:
Participate by completing a craft project using the items on the list. You can complete one project or all 31 projects. You may use other craft items in your project but the primary item should be the item on the list. I won’t be grading you so feel free to use your own creative licence on the projects.
If you do write a blog post to go along with the challenge I would love it if you included a link back to this post (or the post for the day) along with the following text:
This post is part of the Upcycled Crafting Challenge (#freefromtrash) hosted by Calley, The Eco Chic, and is part of a one month challenge to create from trash. This challenge will hopefully open your eyes to the number of items that we still end up trashing every day that could be used by ourselves or our kids to create fun and useful items. To find out more about the challenge and to see other projects click on over to Calley’s announcement post.
Feel free to include the graphics (just copy and paste them) to share the project just don’t alter them in any way. If you are going to use the graphics please link back to this post to provide me with the source credit.
Will you join the #freefromtrash Upcycled Crafting Challenge? Leave your blog link below to let me know you’re participating so others can follow along.

OMG… I soooo want to join in. There have been so many things I have been wanting to do and this challenge just might help me. I have done lots of re-using, but nothing too crafty. But at just about 30 weeks pregnant, IDK. I could have hubby help me, but he wouldn’t be too happy :p

Portable filing pouches made from old blue jean legs. Christmas ornaments made from yogurt cups and Christmas socks. Just pull the sock over the cup. Can do this 2 ways: 1) toe side inside cup, then simply twist the sock and leave the toe hanging out, so it looks like the ding-dong on a bell. 2) Toe side at the bottom of the cup, then, cut off the toe section and twist the remainder so it looks like the top of a bell.
I’ve already done #2 but with a Dr. Pepper 20 oz. soda (I’ll link it later but it is on my FB). But #1 I have to wait until my mom and granny get back in town to teach me how to sew for my t-shirt idea!
