That’s probably the best word to describe my life right now – in TRANSITION!
That’s also why you haven’t seen anything new come from my mouth/hands/keyboard this week either. So what’s new with me and why am I in transition?
Let’s start with the BIG news! I’ve quit my day job (which is/was a pretty big job for me to walk away from) and have been so blessed to be making a complete career change. My current role is in environmental consulting for one of the many branches of the Federal government. It’s not top secret or anything but I’ve never felt comfortable making that public information – when I was hired I remember the owner of the company saying “Loose lips sink ships!” so I’ve always kept that private. Anyways – I’ve been with them for almost 6 years and it’s been a wonderful career and I will miss my work family dearly! We are all spread out across the country so we don’t see each other often – thankfully I just saw them a few weeks ago so I feel like I’ve said my ‘goodbyes’ appropriately.
Wanna guess what I’m doing next? Again, I don’t want to be very specific but I’m sure it won’t take anyone long to pick up on things – after all there aren’t many Calley’s in the world! I’ve been able to take this cloth diapering passion (some might say addiction) and the skills that I’ve learned here on The Eco Chic, on Facebook, and on Twitter and turn them all into one pretty amazing job! Without naming companies (again – if you are astute you’ll have already figured this one out); I’m beginning my career (professionally) as a marketing and social media manager for a very large cloth diaper company/retailer (and no, it’s not Cotton Babies).
What does a marketing and social media manager do exactly? I get to work on marketing plans for promotions and sales. I get to work with bloggers on promotions. I get to play work on Facebook and Twitter every day (and get paid for it). I get to watch trends in the market. I get to watch what the competition is doing. I get to go to trade shows and industry events. And I get to do it all (mostly) from the comforts of my own home (just like my last job). Sounds pretty cool, huh? It’s a lot of work but it’s something I’m really excited about so that makes a huge difference. And like I said…if you pay attention it won’t take long for you to see my name floating around out there.
All of this comes at my favorite time of the year – Earth Day! I’ve been in charge or coordinating a huge Earth Day event each year for my current company. This year Earth Day will make my official last day of employment with them as I travel to DC for my last event. It will be a good transition into my new job.
Earth Day – wow that one is enough to keep me busy for months – and it’s only ONE day! Well in my case it’s actually 2 days because on Saturday, April 23rd it’s the Great Cloth Diaper Change. I had hopes of organizing my own event but in the midst of all this transition I didn’t have enough time (or energy) to do it. I am however still going to attend an event in my town (St Pete, FL actually) and have been asked to be their resident cloth diaper expert/judge!! YEAH!!! I still get to play an important role in an event that means the world to me. Again, a good time to transition into my new role in the industry.
Life transitions: Yes, in real life we are always transitioning aren’t we? My daughter is slowly potty training but I have a feeling her transition will be a very slow one! As she transitions into toddler-hood along comes her tantrums as she learns to communicate in this world. In addition, we’re also transitioning into a challenging period with our son (who is now 8) as he transition into that pre-tween stage (don’t laugh I actually saw that word used online to describe the 8-12 yr olds). Without going into much details let’s just say this has been a VERY challenging year/month/week – one that I need the support of my family and friends to get through. If this is any sign of what the teen years are going to be like then I’ll be accepting donations in the form of bottles of wine to get through the next few years!
With all of this comes transitions here. Once I fully transition from one job to the next (I’m actually working 2 full time jobs until next week) you won’t see as much of me here. I’m not going anywhere but I’ll be other places online and behind the scenes at other locations more often. This will be my escape – my refuge when things get rough or boring! This will be my “ME” time. I still have several reviews/giveaways/product spotlights that I have to catch up on but in the future you’ll see less junk and more valuable content. I have decided to start saying ‘NO” more than I say “YES” – because after all no one wants me to rush work just to get it completed. Therefore I will only be accepting sponsored offers that I can really support and stand behind. You already know those that I’m passionate about because you’ve seen me promote them over and over again.
TRANSITION! I’m sure there’s more transition in my life that I’m forgetting about but my brain is fried tonight with all the transition. I’m going to go enjoy my last sip of wine and get some rest as I pray to God that I can handle all this TRANSITION in my life. Because with transition there is also another word that is even harder than transition – BALANCE!
Cheers and Goodnight! Calley
Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post for anything and I don’t have to disclose squat! Whew…what a relief!

Congrats on the new job- how fun! You will be amazing! Transitions are so hard b/c they go against our human need for control, but you have a large group of friends and family by your side and you will get through all this! Can’t wait to see what life has in store for you over the next year 🙂
I am so excited for you!! It’s like transition in pregnancy – the most painful part but the part right before the payoff 🙂 Can’t wait to see you “around” and most of all at BlogHer 2011!! Let me know any time you are in Dallas also!
This is such awesome news! Congratulations to you! I’m so inspired to see a fellow blogger taking her passion to the next level! I hope we’ll have the chance to work together down the line on a campaign!
Looking forward to the great cloth diaper change event, too! 🙂
