Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011 – Tampa Bay and Beyond

Great Cloth Diaper ChangeWhat is the Great Cloth Diaper Change of 2011?

On April 23, 2011 families around the world will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most babies and tots changed into cloth diaper simultaneously.  The event is organized by the Real Diaper Association (RDA; a non-profit advocacy group) and several other cloth diapering companies and advocates.  This is my second year as a member of the RDA and through them I have found my voice as an advocate.

Why April 23rd? Since one of the benefits to cloth diapering is to better the environment the RDA chose April 23rd since Earth Day is observed on April 22nd each year.  If you recall last year I helped to organize our first Eco Chic Parties event with the RDA called “Get Real Diapers;”  a Twitter Party to help educate families about cloth diapers.  The event was a huge success and has lead to the growth of the online cloth diapering community.

The Great Cloth Diaper Change currently has over 165 registered hosts across the world – not just in the United States.  Each registered event must have a minimum of 25 babies or toddlers to be considered a qualifying event according to the Guinness Book of World Records. If the event were held today and each event had 25 participants that would be 4,125 cloth diapers changed at the same time. This is a great opportunity to spread the word about modern, reusable cloth diapers and how easy they are to use.

If you are in the Tampa Bay area and would like to participate in the event you can follow us on Facebook at Great Cloth Diaper Change Tampa Bay.  I will also be creating a web page for the event and have additional information about registration coming in March.  Be sure to tell your friends and families to follow our page and share it with their friends.  Our event will take place in Pinellas County at a location still to be determined.  I will let you know that I’m trying to organize this event on a local beach – just think of the great photos we could take!!

Not in Tampa Bay? Don’t worry with over 165 events already registered in the first week I’m sure there is an event coming to your area.  You can follow the main Great Cloth Diaper Change page on Facebook or visit their website for a complete list of locations.  If you’d like to host and event I’m sure they will still be accepting applications on their website.

Have you heard about this event yet?  Are you planning on attending?  Are you hosting an event in your own area?  If you’re local would you like to join our team?  Leave us your comments below – we’d love to hear from you!
