This is a very big topic this time of year with all the advertisements to sell you stuff for the holidays…but it’s a big problem all year round. We recently had a problem where our junk mail mulitplied like bunnies! And it wasn’t even ours. It was for someone with the same last name but a different first name. Mostly just catalogs and junk but there was SOOOOOO much of it that I wanted to cry everyday I went to the mailbox. Ond day I decided to call the post office and see what they could do. The following day our mail carrier stopped by to ask me what was going on. He gladly said he’d take care of the problem…by throwing out anything that wasn’t ours. Not really a solution is it?
Today I got an email from www.EcoUnit.com asking me to complete a survey on junk mail. The partner for the survey was a place called www.GreenDimes.com. For a mere $20 a year they will remove your name from any mailing lists that you request and keep it off of future mailing lists that you don’t specifically ask to be on. They say they can reduce your junk mail by 90% in 90 days! Plus for each member that joins Green Dimes they will plant 5 trees in your name. Sounds pretty good to me.
BUT…would you really spend $20 to stop junk mail? I can see myself explaining this purchase to my husband. There are benefits of stopping junk mail that are beyond the obvious environmental reasons (waste paper, water resources, energy, etc) like identity theft. But would you join for $20?
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you joined? What were the results? Do you think it was worth the money?

I love greendimes! I just have the free one right now but I’m going to ask for the paid for my birthday. It’s wonderful. Even the free has really cut our junkmail.
