Recycling and Eco-Radicalism

I know I’m slacking in the blogosphere but as usual work is hectic.  I am excited and disgusted about two different topics today.

First, I am SOOOOO excited because we now have curbside recycling available in our neighborhood.  I called and signed up for it yesterday, now I just have to wait for my recycle bin to be delivered.  I have to give some credit to my neighbor because she signed up a few days before me and reminded me to make that call.  I was a little disappointed with the waste service because of how they advertised for recycling.  On our last bill there was a very small note that said recycling is coming to the area and call if you are interested.  Why not advertise for this service more?  I think more people would be prompted to sign up if they heard more about it.  Hopefully after they see my recycle bin and my neighbors (who lives on a different street) they will be prompted to find out how they can get a bin too.  I’m just excited that I’ll now have weekly pick-ups and I don’t have to collect these items for a few weeks until I get the motivation to take them to the drop off center.

Secondly, I wanted to talk about eco-radicalism.  Did you hear about the environmental group in Seattle that is being blamed for burning down some luxury homes?  What a disgrace!  In todays society we cannot have this sort of eco-terrorism going on.

More on that later…my battery is dying!

OK…so I promised I would finish my thought on eco-radicals and eco-terrorists.  I whole heartedly believe in fighting and standing up for what you believe in.  I do not believe that vandalism and radical behavior is the way to get your point across.  On top of my moral reasons for not believing in this type of behavior I must point out how much environmental impact this group actual created to try to get their point across.  Not only are all the resources that were used to build this home lost but setting fire to anything releases toxins into the air.  Did they not consider the amount of air pollution and solid waste that they would create by burning this house down?  Not to mention the chemicals used to put out the fire.  What a disgrace to the environmental community!
