Elmer’s Glue Crew!

I found this yesterday and was so excited that I shared it with my sons pre-K director this morning.  Elmer’s and Wal-Mart have teamed up to encourage recycling of empty glue and glue stick containers.  I’ve never even considered how many of these get disposed of daily at our schools.  Every year we are asked to provide the school with some basic supplies; including glue and glue sticks.  I had no idea that glue and glue stick containers were even recyclable (they are #2 plastics).  Be a part of the solution and share this program with your child’s school and encourage them to take action.  We need to remember to teach our children the importance of recycling and caring for the Earth at a young age; it will be easier for them and better for the environment in the long run. 

I’m actually disappointed in the response I got from the director at my son’s school.  She said they don’t need a program like this because they refill their glue bottles.  That still leaves all those empty glue sticks being thrown away not to mention the large bottles of glue they use to refill the individual sized bottles.  I’m glad they reuse the small bottles but they need to remember that the large bottles still have an impact to the environment.  I’ll try to approach it again in person this afternoon and let you know how it was received.
