Hi! I’m so glad you decided to learn more about me. I’m Calley, the owner and editor of Back to Calley blog. I first started blogging here under the name “The Eco Chic” back in 2007. While I focused a lot on eco-friendly living in the beginning, I’ve now broadened my scope to include parenting, crafts, food & recipes, photography, travel and more! Over the years I have worked with several small businesses on product reviews and social media campaigns. I have also provided social media consulting for many of my clients teaching them how to be successful in social media. As a reader, I hope to bring you content that will educate and entertain you. As a client and brand partner, I hope to help you reach out to others through my words and social media networks. My loyal followers have been with me for years and I continue to reach out to new readers every day. How can I help you?

In my many years online I’ve managed marketing & social media efforts for DiaperShops, Kelly’s Closet and The Cloth Diaper Whisperer; they closed their doors in the spring of 2019 to move on to new adventures. I’ve also managed marketing, email communications, social media, and influencer campaigns for Molly’s Suds. I am a member of Tampa Bay Bloggers. I’ve contributed to the Tampa Bay Moms Blog and Earth 911. I’ve also been published in Veritas Wellness magazine (Winter 2011/12), Kaia Magazine (Spring 2012), Green Child Magazine (April 2014, Sept 2013, Aug 2012, and April 2012). I’ve been featured in the Changing Diapers, A Hip Mom’s Guide to Cloth Diapers book by Kelly Wels and the newly released Plastic Free book by Beth Terry.

I am a forty-something year old wife and mother of two beautiful babies. Our oldest just graduated high school 6 months early and our youngest just started middle school. Our youngest, born in January 2009, was our natural baby: breastfed for 2 years, worn for as long as she’d let me, and a cloth diaper graduate. I work full-time doing environmental audits and environmental management. When I’m not working we enjoy traveling, playing at the beach, and sports. I’m a Girl Scout Troop Leader (and newly elected Service Unit Manager) for my daughters troop of 10 girls (Cadette’s). I’m always seeking out new skills to master and can pretty much teach myself anything (except maybe advanced algebra). I’ve played with a DSLR camera, Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter, just about every form of crafts and art, knitting, cross stitch, you name it! I created the Original Painted Rock Challenge, learning hand lettering, playing with my Tombow pens, and diving head first into my new iPad Pro (with Procreate app and Apple Pencil). I’m learning how to maneuver my way through the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products and run a very small Etsy shop . I have dreams, but they change daily! I’m not really sure what I want to do when I grow up! My husband is your typical sports fanatic who thinks his wife is crazy! But he supports me in everything that I do and for that I love him.
My passion growing up was the arts and the ocean. After my initial pursuit in graphic design I decided to switch my career path to Biology. I have a degree in Biology with a focus on aquatic ecosystems. My professional life has opened the environmental world for me. I am once again working for a company as an environmental contractor for a government agency. My job function was to implement and manage their environmental program and continually look for ways to improve and reduce their environmental footprint that they leave on this nation. I have job experience in Hazardous Materials, Waste Prevention and Recycling, Green Purchasing, Energy Management, Water Management, Electronics Stewardship, Alternative Fuels, Environmental Management, Regulatory Compliance, Facilities Auditing, Training, and Outreach & Education. Pretty much an eco-junkie!
Why did I change from graphic design to biology? I’ll never truly understand this myself. The arts are like the ocean, part of my soul! At the time I had to make the decision between making a stable living and pursuing something that would be a little more challenging. I took the longer path educationally and worked really hard to learn something new to me; Biology and Environmental Science. Now I’m finding myself enjoying art more and my soul has come back to where it began!!
