Third grade math is hitting us hard here! Over the past few weeks my daughter’s class has been working on multiplication and now division. They are still mastering their multiplication facts and she’s not as fast as she needs to be. I know that all of this will come with practice and patience; but it’s a struggle! I’ve been downloading app after app to help her master her facts.

The team at Zapzapmath app contacted me recently and asked if we’d like to give their math app a test drive! The app is free to download and works on iPhone or Droid; but also on your computer and Chromebook. The premium subscription is $9.95 for a year and will unlock the entire grades worth of activities and games. Bai tried both the standard app and the premium app on my iPhone this afternoon and I can tell that the premium version is more beneficial since it covers a wider range of math skills.

The standard version for 3rd grade math allows your child to review shapes, area and perimeter (array’s), and measurements. Each grade has it’s own basic activities; but when we moved to the 4th grade to try out multiplication it was more advanced than the 3rd grade basics. The games were fun and there were several levels; she could have kept playing those basic skills for a while.

Adaptive Learning on the Zapzapmath app

Once we moved to the premium subscription I feel like we were more on target since we could select multiplication and division (what she’s currently working on in her class). My only concern at this point was that the basic multiplication and division training session still seemed a little advanced. The app doesn’t have the option to adjust the learning to the basics that she needs at this stage of the year. Once she’s mastered her single number multiplication facts, I like that the training games integrate both multiplication and division in the same activity. Even after I was done watching her play, she continued to play different activities and levels for about an hour before she handed me my phone back!

Zapzapmath has over 180 math games with 900 different difficulty levels and it combines with Common Core State Standards. There’s even a parent profile that allows you to login and view their progress and understanding of each skill. You can view this from desktop or from a mobile device.

I absolutely love that the game works on web browsers and Chromebook! Bai actually loves to play on the desktop and there’s always a battle in our house over who gets to use it. I have a Chromebook in addition to our desktop but most games don’t work on the device; Zapzapmath does! There’s even a multiplayer mode where you child can customize their avatar and challenge other players. There’s no chat feature either so you’ll feel secure knowing they aren’t chatting with anyone you don’t know.

Give it a try! The app is free to download (or play online) and you can access over 20 games from Grade K to 6.

Win a premium one year subscription! I’m giving away THREE premium subscriptions to my readers. To enter, head over to my Facebook page and comment on my giveaway post! I’ll select three random winners on Monday, Nov 20th and email you the premium code. It’s that easy.
