Be A Green Irene

September 20, 2010 By: Calley Patecomment

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to have new content delivered to your inbox! I hope to see you on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I have a lot of information on rock painting and cloth diapers in my archives if you're interested! Thanks for visiting!

Nice to see you again! Hope you're having a fabulous day! Can I help you with anything? Contact Me!

Have you ever wished that you could just hire someone to come to your house and teach you how to Go Green?  Did you know that there is actually a company that does just that?  Green Irene is a company out of NYC that I had the pleasure of meeting with at the Green Soiree during my BlogHer trip.  I actually got to meet the founders, Pete (PJ) and Rosmaria, and received my personal mini-green consultation.

The explained to me why their line of eco-cleaners were different from what you can buy at the store – they’re ENZYMATIC!  What exactly does it mean to be enzymatic?  All of the Green Irene cleaners are made from plant derived enzymes which allow the cleaners to naturally break down stains, grease, oil, and odors.  Enzymatic cleaners work the same way as traditional household cleaners – just without the toxic chemicals like ammonia, butyl glycol, hydrochloric acid, and chlorine bleach.

Green Irene cleaners are non-toxic, non-caustic, hypoallergenic, and safe for the entire family – even babies and pets.  They contain no fumes, vapors, phosphates, chlorine, or petrochemicals.  As if the safe enzymatic ingredients weren’t enough – the Green Irene cleaners have sustainable packaging – each bottle is refillable so you have less waste and can save money on shipping.  I received a Starter Kit with 5 empty (16oz) spray bottles, 1 bottle of concentrated floor cleaner, and 5 (1 oz) packets of concentrated cleaner to try.  My starter kit arrived and I immediately mixed up the packets in the refillable bottles – then I stored them neatly under my kitchen sink.  I actually have quite a collection of eco-friendly cleaners these days – I feel like I’ve tried them all.

My husband was actually the first to try the products out – and he had to start with the dirtiest job in the house, the bathroom!  If you’ve been reading for a while you may remember that our bathroom is quite the outdated and heavily stained challenge of our house!  We really don’t have much success with cleaning the bathroom and the mildew stains in the shower.  We actually tag-teamed the bathroom this specific day – he took the shower and I did everything else.  (It’s a small bathroom so I actually got the better end of this deal!)  Like most of the eco-friendly cleaners we weren’t overly WOW’ed by the performance in the shower.  It worked but only with some serious elbow grease.  The bathroom cleaner did a fantastic job on the shower doors though – and on the rest of the bathroom fixtures!  Our shower is a LOST CAUSE – seriously we’re just procrastinating with the remodel job!

I’ve now had a chance to use the other Green Irene cleaners from the Starter Kit too.  The Starter Kit contain specially forumulated kitchen, bathroom, stainless steel/glass, mildew/stain remover, stain/odor elimiator, and a no-rinse floor cleaner.  My favorite are the kitchen, stainless steel/glass, and the floor cleaners.  I was so excited about the floor cleaner that I had to go buy a new mop – the Rubbermain Reveal – have you seen this thing yet?  O-M-G, I’m in LOVE!  It works similar to a Swiffer Mop but without the waste!  There is a refillable bottle and a washable microfiber mop pad – allowing you to customize floor cleaning with your favorite cleaners!

Anyways – if I had more time in my life I would totally sign up to become a Green Irene eco-consultant.  Eco-consultants get special training from the Green Irene team so that they can come to your home or business and help make your life a little greener.  They offer Go Green Workshops – like a house party – where a local consultant comes to your house for a 20-30 minute presentation.  They also offer a longer Green Home Makeover and an Ask Irene online service where you can access a private database and a team of eco-researchers.
