Team Blonde

Press Release from Team Blonde and Falk Associates:  I sure wish I lived in IL and had a Team Blonde near me!  This place looks really cool.

Socially Conscious Entrepreneurs Open Green Spa

Living green is already such an ingrained commitment for Team Blonde co-owners Jayne Ertel and Heidi Vance, that they didn’t think twice about taking their chef friend’s leftover frying oil from his nearby restaurant and making their own biofuel for their Volkswagen diesel jettas.

Their boutique and spa located at 7442 W. Madison in Forest Park, IL is stocked full of neat environmentally friendly products and they reuse just about everything. And now, for the first time, the successfully conscious entrepreneurs have opened up a green spa in the funky space.

“We realize the world doesn’t need another spa, but there are virtually no spas doing the things our green spa is doing,” said Vance.

First off, the construction of the spa was done in an entirely green way. Vance and Ertel covered the floor with bamboo, a renewable source, used recycled paper product in lieu of paper towels and reused every single two by four and drywall screw to build spa walls from an earlier renovation in the jewelry store. Additionally, two of the treatment rooms use natural lighting.

“The way in which the rooms were built, there is natural sunlight flooding in so that lights often aren’t necessary,” said Ertel.

And what makes their spa so unique is that almost every product used for the spa services are organic and ecologically friendly. While they will offer the cult favorite nail polish, OPI, Vance said their spa also offers a vegan nail polish line, Spa Ritual.

“We eventually want everything to be organic. Right now our facials are 100 percent organic and we’re bringing in Elina’s organic skin care collection, which we couldn’t be more thrilled about,” said Vance.

Elina Fedotova is a Cosmetic Chemist, Herbalist and Aesthetician whose products, which change seasonally, are formulated and packaged in Michigan.  She has been sharing her unique passion for natural skin care since immigrating to the United States in 1991. And for more than a decade, her hand-made, natural, transdermal skin care products have been exclusively featured in the finest skin care clinics all over the world.

Fedotova’s mantra is similar to Team Blonde’s philosophy that in order to look your best, you do not have to endanger yourself or the environment with surgery and toxic products. A trained staff member will be on hand each week in Forest Park to personally assess client’s skin and recommend a holistic skin remedy.

Some of the organic treatments being offered are the corrective herbal facial, crushed amber facial and intensive eye treatments.

“What is different about our treatments is the client will receive a different facial every time because we formulate a customized facial based on the individual,” said Ertel. “The treatments will evolve as our client’s skin improves.”

Vance and Ertel have parlayed their consciousness concerning the environment and social causes into a successful business model. “Our customers definitely appreciate that we offer them beautiful things that don’t waste the earth’s resources,” affirmed Ertel.  Added Vance, “That’s the maxim we live by.”

Oh how I wish I lived by this eco salon too! Wow 🙂 I am so impressed! I hope others will eventually follow this philosophy. I have been trying to find some good natural products for my skin but have yet to find anything that scores perfectly on the cosmetics database. I take my Vidazorb chewable probiotics (the OPC daily age defense) and use olive oil as a facial moisturizer. I just read an article that said olive oil scored a one on the database…not sure why but maybe a one is the best you can get. Anyway- thanks for sharing this great review 🙂

When I lived in Chicago I was about 5 minutes from this shop (I lived in Oak Park, right next door to them). I left Chicago 5 years ago and this is one of the shops I miss most! They’ve changed so much since I last visited and I’m so excited to hear about their latest undertaking.
